D’awwww. Read on for more.

Kinja'd!!!

I did a bunch of work to my Mini over the past few days, and it’s almost done! Basically everything from the head gasket up. New head, new intake and exhaust, new rockers... see below for a bit more info:

I finally got it all bolted back up last night, and.... I forgot to put a gasket onto the heater tap. Oops. A little bit of cleanup and a few minutes with an x-acto knife, and we were back in business. It only took a few tries to get it started, and it was ROUGH. Not a surprise, but probably not what my neighbors wanted to hear at 10:30 at night. (I swear I’m not a bad neighbor, just really impatient.)

Kinja'd!!!

I tried it again and managed to get it to hold a rough idle. I’ve got a fair bit of carb tuning ahead of me, but it runs! The carb tuning has me worried a bit, because the fuel mixture screw is wedged between the firewall and the fuel line. I can get to it by taking off the fuel line, but then I’m guessing... ack. Who knows, I’ll figure something out.

Anyway, here’s a video of the rough idle! No apologies for the vertical video, it’s from Snapchat.

What’s the displacement on that one?

The rips in your glove make it look like a fingerless glove, which in turn makes me think “Billy Idol works on his car”.

“It’s a nice day to - START AGAIN”.

Probably a 1.3, looks like a late 80s model.

I love miniature stuff. No pun intended. I’m a real sucker for it. Proof:

Is that... an electric ukelele mini-Tele? *head explodes*

Also available in Strat and Les Paul flavours.

Steel-strung, too. Love at first sight. It does buzz though. It makes a decent sound, and it’s got the intonation pretty well nailed, but when you get down to it it IS a cheap piece of equipment. There’s basically no shielding in it. I’ve got a roll of shielding tape coming (1.68CND, SHIPPED—lol), I’ll see what that does, but even as it sits it can’t be beat for the price.

I’ve already got a Yamaha Guitalele (6-string), so any shame I might have had from having a ukelele has been burned through for years. May need to get that - TEH DISTORSHUNS

The only reason I don’t have one of those is because I gave up the guitar because I’m too lazy to learn how to skip strings when the chords demand it. THIS was almost another impulse buy though, if it had cost $60-70 instead of $130 I’d have got suckered right in.

Soo tiny! It was a ton of fun, but at the end of the day it’s just too much $$ for something that can never sound very good just because it’s small size works against it. I was surprised how easy it was to play though, I’d go for this anytime over your basic cheap uke. Sounds MAYBE a tiny bit better, but it’s nicer and easier to play even though it’s smaller.

The Guitalele, I currently have tuned as if it is a real guitar, which is kind of funny. Pretty much no finger pressure to play at all, and the intonation is off for the higher notes, but it sounds approximately right. The intro to Pinball Wizard sounds better on it than it has any right to. It’s a very solid instrument in general.

I bought it in a little music shop in Erfurt, Germany - I was doing a study abroad thing and got up the itch for a practice guitar. Et voila...

Would one of these screwdrivers give you enough room to work? It’s got a Phillips on one end and straight on the other.

Good luck with the carb tuning. It doesn’t sound too bad considering everything was just put together and hasn’t had any fine tuning done.

There are plenty of them out there! Cheap, too. I love mine.

Nice!

That’s not my hand, either. For some reason I chose not to wear gloves that day. It was ugly.

It's a 998cc! It's earlier than the person below guessed, but it has ton of non-original parts (check out that brake servo!)

It might! The issue is that the screw is tight between the firewall and the fuel line... Which means no real rotational room if I use a short screwdriver. I might be able to get it with some combination of socket extensions, though. TBD.
